West Ham, Wolves, Ipswich and Southampton are tracking Millwall's Japhet Tanganga.
West Ham and Wolves are among the clubs keeping tabs on Millwall’s Japhet Tanganga ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old joined the Lions on an initial loan in January 2024, and he played a big role in ensuring the Londoners avoided a relegation battle after Neil Harris’ appointment last season.
Tanganga has gone from strength-to-strength in the current campaign, starring for Millwall in what has been an inconsistent season so far for the side.
Such form meant the ex-Spurs man was attracting transfer interest going in the January window, with reports claiming Wolves and Sheffield United were looking to sign the defender.
Obviously, Tanganga stayed put, and he will finish the season at The Den, but it appears his long-term future could be elsewhere.
That’s after Give Me Sport revealed that there are several clubs preparing to keep tabs on Tanganga over the next few months.
The report suggests Wolves’ interest could be the strongest, with the Midlands outfit still looking at the player, even though he didn’t join in the recent window. It’s said that Wanderers are expected to send a scout to watch Tanganga when Millwall face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.
Elsewhere, they claim that West Ham, Ipswich and Southampton have identified the player as a ‘potential recruit’. Of course, a move to the Hammers would be the most controversial given Millwall’s bitter rivalry with the club.
This is not ideal news for Millwall, but the reality is that Tanganga is a quality player, so he was always going to attract attention from Premier League clubs.
He has the physical tools to cope with the demands of the top-flight, and his positional play, reading of the game and his recovery pace has all been evident with Millwall, where he has emerged as their top defender.
So, even though the Premier League is a step-up, it’s one you would expect Tanganga to handle, and he obviously has experience at that level from earlier in his career.
From Millwall’s perspective, it’s about enjoying Tanganga whilst he is at the club, and if this interest does result in formal offers for the player, it’s something to discuss in the summer.
But, Millwall will be in a position to demand a big sum for the centre-back, and if the right offer does arrive, it will be about reinvesting the funds brought in to improve the squad as a whole.
