We asked Davey Hat-Trick to give us his match ratings and player comments after West Ham 0 Newcastle 1.

I wasn’t sure what we’d get from Newcastle in this game, but we got enough.

We didn’t exactly play at full pelt, and we weren’t always comfortable (the last 10 minutes were torture – everyone forgot how to pass the ball), but we did not play like a team with one eye on Wembley.

It was a turgid game, to be honest, but I thought we deserved to win it.

Even though there were times when our defence creaked, West Ham never really came close to scoring, and we head home to Tyneside with a big win.

I do think we’ll need to play better on Sunday, but I suspect we will.

Once that’s over, it’s got to be foot hard down on the accelerator for the last 10 league games. Lots of them are winnable and there is no reason we can’t finish in the top five.

Nick Pope – 7

Stopped what he had to stop.

Looked a bit shaky on a couple of late crosses but was fine otherwise.

Kieran Trippier – 7

I thought he was quite poor in the first half and didn’t seem to be able to pass the ball forward.

However, he became increasingly influential as the game went on.

Fabian Schar – 6

Fab had a couple of decent touches but was exposed for pace a couple of times too.

Not bad, but not as assured as he was earlier in the season.

Dan Burn – 6

Another one whose lack of pace was evident on a couple of occasions.

Also seemed to be a bit rattled and got a silly yellow card.

However, a clean sheet away from home is something for him and his colleagues to build on.

Tino Livramento – 7

Looked good going forward and had more energy than the rest of our defence combined.

My only gripe is that he is heavily right-footed, so when he did overlap into the left wing position, everything ground to a halt as he checked back.

Bruno Guimaraes – 7

A good game and an extremely valuable goal.

The powers that be on Sky gave him Player of the Match, and I don’t want to argue, but I didn’t think he was the dominant midfielder on display…

Sandro Tonali – 8

…I thought Sandro was.

If he played for one of Sky’s beloved ‘Big Six’, they’d be on about him all the time.

He just glides through games without breaking sweat. A class act.

Joelinton – 7

A typically rumbunctious performance – he played like a kid in the playground, only with a bit more skill.

Kept himself under control, somehow, and avoided the booking half us were expecting.

Jacob Murphy – 6.5

On the positive side, he was the only player in white and green who consistently got crosses into the box.

One of them in particular nearly led to a bizarre own goal.

However, Murphy isn’t a player who should dwell on the ball – he tends to lose it when he does.

Alexander Isak – 6

If you’d offered me a 1-0 win and an injury-free Isak before the game, I’d have bitten both of your arms off.

This wasn’t his best game but he did look threatening on a couple of occasions.

Fouled a West Ham defender in the build-up to our goal and got away with it.

Harvey Barnes – 8

He needed this and we needed this.

Came very close to scoring on a couple of occasions in the first half and got the assist for our goal.

It’s not fair to compare him to Anthony Gordon – he drifts infield rather than hugging the touchline, and he tends to power past players rather than dribbling.

However, there is a player in there, and he did enough to keep his place for Wembley, in my opinion.

Joe Willock – 5

Tried hard, looked lively, but didn’t make a significant impact.

Callum Wilson – 5

Looked sharp, and – I hope – may just be coming into form for the run-in.

Sean Longstaff – N/A

Not on long enough to judge.
