West Bromwich Albion have made three permanent signings this summer in Nat Phillips, Aune Heggebø and George Campbell, and have held on to winger Mikey Johnston after a confusing transfer saga with Brazilian giants Flamengo.

The club had been linked with a loan move for Tottenham youngster Mikey Moore, with West Midlands rivals Birmingham City also interested in the winger. However, Moore now looks set to make a move north of the border and join up with Russell Martin at Rangers, as per reports from the BBC.

FLW's Baggies Fan Pundit Callum believes that while Moore would have been an exciting option, it is far from doom and gloom for Albion.

"I think he would have been a good addition for West Brom," said Callum when asked whether he was disappointed by the news surrounding Moore. "Should Tom Fellows leave the club, it could have allowed Mikey Johnston to play on the right, while Moore and Karlan Grant compete for the spot on the left.

"While he clearly has lots of potential, it might be more appealing for Albion to be targeting more ready-made players, who can make an instant impact at the club," said Callum, who was keen to emphasise how big a move Rangers is for the youngster.

"I think that a move to Rangers, where he will be playing for one of the best teams in the division, and with Russell Martin, could be a better move for him as a player."

Callum emphasised the point of bringing in ready-made talent on a permanent deal, as the Baggies look to avoid another disappointing campaign: "I think Albion could do with a more permanent option. Rather than risking a scenario where, at best, we only get a decent loan spell and then the player is off to bigger and better things next year.

"I am interested in seeing more long-term options come through the door," Callum concluded.

Moore's Rangers move could be good news for Mikey Johnston

While Moore's Glasgow move is a blow for the Baggies, it could be good news for one of their wingers, Mikey Johnston, who is staying at the club following a failed move to Flamengo earlier this summer.

Johnston joined Albion on a permanent deal last summer from Celtic after impressing during a loan spell at the Hawthorns.

He was a regular throughout last term and might have been expecting to hold down the position on the left wing every week, with him now remaining at the club under Mason.

At 26 years of age, he would not have wanted to spend the campaign potentially warming the bench for Moore, who is one of Tottenham's brightest young prospects.

With a move for Moore no longer on the cards, it could work out perfectly for Johnston, who is set to play a big role as the Baggies look to surge back up the table following a disappointing ninth-place finish.
