These three League One clubs must be eyeing up a move for the West Brom forward
West Bromwich Albion are looking to end what will be a five-year absence from the Premier League next May.
With Ryan Mason at the helm, the Baggies will be keen to bolster their squad this summer for the 2025/26 campaign.
Nat Phillips has already moved to The Hawthorns, and Brann striker Aune Heggebo has been announced as the club's second addition of the window.
The latter’s signing has led to questions over the future of some of West Brom’s current crop.
A reported fee of £4.75m is a huge outlay for the Baggies, which means that the 23-year-old is likely to command a leading role in the team.
Devante Cole is one player in particular who now seems likely to exit the club this summer.
With Josh Maja, Daryl Dike and Karlan Grant in Mason’s ranks, it’s hard to imagine the former Barnsley frontman battling his place into the squad.
As a result, Football League World have highlighted THREE League One clubs that should be trying to secure Cole’s services for next season.
Huddersfield Town have shown great ambition in the early stages of the summer window, and are becoming early favourites to challenge for promotion next term.
Novice manager Lee Grant has added Ryan Ledson, Sean Roughan, Marcus Harness, Murray Wallace, Joe Low, Owen Goodman and Josh Feeney to his ranks. However, the Yorkshire outfit could do with some extra firepower up front.
The likes of Freddie Ladapo, Bojan Radulovic and Rhys Healey haven’t proven to be consistent enough for the Terriers, with the latter being very injury-prone, and a swoop for Cole could take their attack up a level, and add to Joe Taylor and Dion Charles' abilities.
Huddersfield are clearly building an exciting project, and adding the 30-year-old’s certified League One goalscoring credentials into that mix could pay dividends come May.
After a year of struggling at The Hawthorns, Cole may be tempted by a return back to familiar surroundings this summer.
The striker scored 33 goals across his last two League One campaigns with Barnsley before getting snapped up by the Baggies on a free, and would back himself to find that form once more back at Oakwell.
Conor Hourihane could still lose Davis Keillor-Dunn, and after Stephen Humphrys’ Oakwell exit in favour of a move to Bradford City, the Irishman may feel pursuing a move for the Tykes’ former talisman may help make the difference next term.
Barnsley might struggle to match offers with the financial package they could offer West Bro, and Cole but will hope to play on the sentimental factor of the deal to secure the 30-year-old’s services.
Two years ago, Luton Town were ramping up preparations for an awe-inspiring year in the Premier League - just 24 months later and a season in League One is now the focus.
The Hatters have signed George Saville, Kal Naismith and Jake Richards this summer, but are yet to add an attacker to their ranks.
In fact, they have lost star striker Carlton Morris to Derby County and will subsequently need to replace him with guaranteed goals, especially with Elijah Adebayo sidelined with a knee injury.
Cole would provide that in abundance, and would be tempted by the prospect of signing for a team that should have a realistic chance of promotion.
Luton would have the suitable finances to make a deal happen and could do a lot worse than pursuing a transfer for the 30-year-old.
Therefore, if Cole does become available, Matt Bloomfield’s side should be at the front of the line to secure his services.
