The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and Sportverein Werder Bremen (SVW) have announced the organisation of an international friendly match between the Vietnam women's national team and the first women’s team of Werder Bremen.
This event is held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Federal Republic of Germany. This special sporting occasion not only offers an opportunity for both teams to compete and enhance their professional skills, but also contributes to strengthening cooperation and cultural exchange between Vietnam and Germany through the world’s most beloved sport. At the same time, the match also demonstrates the Vietnamese women's team's active preparation ahead of the AFC Women's Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers. Notably, playing against a prestigious and well-established club like Werder Bremen from Germany promises to provide valuable experience for the team.

The Werder Bremen women’s football club represents the Frauen-Bundesliga — Germany’s top-tier women’s football league, which is also among the leading women's leagues in Europe and the world. Based in Bremen, the club is known for the modern style of play and excellent technical skills. With a squad featuring many talented young players alongside those with extensive international experience, Werder Bremen will be a high-quality opponent for the Vietnam women’s national football team.
Speaking about the match, General Secretary of the VFF, Mr. Nguyen Van Phu, stated: “This match is part of the preparation plan for the national women’s team’s important tasks in 2025. This year is a busy one for Vietnamese women’s football, with many international tournaments. VFF always strives to create the best possible conditions for the team to compete against high-quality opponents, thereby helping players gain more experience and improve their competitive mindset.” This is also an opportunity for fans in the capital of Vietnam to cheer on the Green-Whites, while giving the national women’s team an extra boost of motivation on their journey to conquer the continental stage. Clemens Fritz, managing director for sport at Werder Bremen, stated: "We are delighted to be part of the celebrations to mark the anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Germany. For our players, this trip is another absolute highlight in their careers after the cup final on the 1st of May. We are expecting a top-class match against the Vietnamese women's national team and are very much looking forward to this trip." The Vietnam women’s team is set to regroup on 6th May at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center in Hanoi, assembling a provisional squad of approximately 30 players. Led by head coach Mai Duc Chung, the team will undergo a 10-day training camp in preparation for the international friendly match against the Werder Bremen women’s football club.
