Denmark’s Tipsbladet reports that FC Copenhagen are interested in acquiring Werder Bremen keeper Michael Zetterer. The Danish champions look to the Bundesliga to replace another German keeper who is leaving. Stuttgart-native Diant Ramaj is slated to return to Borussia Dortmund after a successful loan stint in the Danish capital.
Zetterer himself has just wrapped a mixed campaign. The 29-year-old was mentioned as a potential candidate for the German national team during one particularly strong stretch, yet experienced several dips before finishing the season strongly. Zetterer – once even linked with a Manchester City move – never less continues to garner interest abroad.
Zetterer joined Bremen in 2016. He initially struggled with injuries. After several years on loan in Austria and Holland, he finally got the chance to serve as Bremen’s no. 1 in October 2023, displacing long-time starter Jiri Pavlenka. Zetterer started all 34 Bundesliga fixtures for the Hanseaten last season.
The Munich-native may be eager to continue his career elsewhere, particularly in light of the fact that he could receive a chance to play Champions League football with Copenhagen. Moreover, Bremen have their preferred “keeper of the future” ready in the form of Germany U21 international Mio Backhaus.
Zetterer currently maintains a career-high €4.5m estimated market value. The keeper’s lucrative contract extension with his current Bundesliga club, signed in May 2024, keeps him tied to Bremen through 2027.
