Carlo Ancelotti suggested he is excited about what more is to come from Real Madrid’s wealth of attacking talent after knocking Manchester City out of the Champions League.
Madrid secured a 3-1 second leg win to progress to the round of 16, winning 6-3 on aggregate over the two games having won 3-2 at the Etihad in the first leg.
Mbappe starred in the victory, scoring a superb hat-trick to send his side through.
He scored his first of the game after four minutes before adding to his tally prior to half time.
He completed the hat-trick in the second half, cutting in and curling into the bottom corner.
And Madrid boss Ancelotti lauded the Frenchman and says his side’s attack is going to be difficult for other teams in the Champions League to stop.
“Fantastic player,” Ancelotti told TNT Sports.
“We have a lot of quality up front and when we are able to connect him with Rodrygo, Bellingham and Vinicius we are really, really dangerous – that happened in these two games.
“He [Mbappe] had a lot of opportunities in these two games against a really good team, City are still a really good team, and we looked very dangerous.”
Madrid are looking to secure a 16th Champions League/European Cup and will face either Bayer Leverkusen or city rivals Atletico Madrid in the round of 16.
And Ancelotti says he is also encouraged by his side’s defensive organisation.
“Our goal was to be good defensively,” he said.
“We were compact. We have a lot of quality up front but we were not always able to defend our box. In these two games we have been able to do this. When you have that foundation you are able to build out from it.
“You never know in football. Every little detail can change the dynamic of a game. We were able to control the game well and scored the second and the third goals but we were always defending well.
“It takes time to defend in a low block and the players understood that. They understood that they had to work collectively in defence.”
