‘We have everything to win’ – Spurs have a good chance of winning FA Cup says Vilahamn | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur head coach Robert Vilahamn says that his side have a good chance of defeating Manchester United in the 2023/2024 Adobe Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.

The Lilywhites go into the tie as the outsiders but they pushed Manchester United all the way in a Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at The Leigh Sports Village just three weeks’ ago, that game ending in a 2-2 draw.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Spurs boss Vilahamn said that his side have the qualities needed to win this weekend’s final.

“They are the favourites for this game because they’ve been towards the top of the table for a while,” Vilahamn said. “On the other hand, this year they are not top three any more.

“We played a good game against them [at The Leigh Sports Village] and saw that we could actually compete with them and almost win.

“Yes, they are favourites and they were there last year but we are taking steps [forward] all of the time. We have beaten good teams this year, so we feel like we have everything to win in this game and we have a good chance to win.”

Spurs defeated high-flying Manchester City on their way to the final. Vilahamn says that his side have gained belief off the back of a string of strong results against top four teams, not just from that one game.

He said “I think it started when we got a draw with Arsenal in the Conti Cup and after that, we beat them in the [WSL] North London derby.

“We started to build trust in the group. We knew that we would be more competitive if we could nail having a good defence and using the chances that we get.

“We had a few more games after Christmas where we had good performances; we beat Manchester City in the cup then drew at Manchester United.

“It’s not once or twice, it’s four or five times that we have competed with the top four teams. That means that the players now understand that we can compete and beat Manchester United. It’s not a question anymore, we know that we can do that and that we have a good chance to win on Sunday.

“You can feel that everyone is going for the win, we’re not just happy to be there, we have a good chance to beat Manchester United. We have enormous respect for them because they were there last year and they are a great team but it’s a final, it’s going to be a tough game.”

Spurs will be backed by 12,000 fans in their dedicated supporters’ section at Wembley with more fans dotted around the stadium. Vilahamn sees the game as a great opportunity to grow the club’s fanbase.

He said “I think we have 12,000 Tottenham fans that bought tickets and you’re obviously going to have a lot more people in the stadium watching the game. I’m not sure if they’ll be supporting Tottenham or any other team but we’re going to play in front of a full stadium and show them the good football that we can play and how good the product is.

“I think we can win a lot more fans and that’s the main thing. We speak a lot about hopefully getting fans but now we have a chance to play in front of a lot of fans; we need to make sure that we show them how good we are.

“This is the moment that we need to use, this is the moment that we should use because they deserve it.”

The 2023/2024 Adobe Women’s FA Cup final kicks-off at 2.30pm on Sunday afternoon. Tickets for the Wembley showpiece have now sold out.
