Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has indicated that the club may have a relatively quiet window this summer due to financial constraints.
After finishing 15th in the Premier League and losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur, United will head into the 2025/26 season with no continental football for the first time in a decade.
Unsurprisingly, this will have financial ramifications due to the Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), and Amorim is expecting limited transfer business this summer as a result.
“Without the Champions League, we don’t need a big squad – we can control the squad in a better way,” Amorim told reporters (h/t Daily Mail).
“We have a plan that is to bring in some new players, of course, but our big plan is to improve the team that we have, which is to improve our academy.
“That is the future – it is not going to change so much because we have the PSR rules, we are not allowed to do much this summer.”
Despite Amorim’s comments, United are closing in on their first acquisition of the summer market, with Matheus Cunha close to joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a £62.5 million deal.
The Red Devils are reportedly still keen on further offensive reinforcements and have made an enquiry for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. Lyon youngster Rayan Cherki is another transfer target.
United are currently in Asia for the start of their pre-season tour, which commences with a clash against the ASEAN All-Star XI on Wednesday afternoon.
