Watford have no intention of selling attacking midfielder Yaser Asprilla in this summer's transfer window.

That's according to a report from The Watford Observer, who say that the Hornets are confident they will be able to keep the 20-year-old for the coming campaign.

Asprilla made the move to Watford from Envigado in his native Colombia back in January 2022, and has since become an increasingly important player for the club.

In total, the attacking midfielder has made 86 appearances in all competitions for the Hornets, scoring seven goals and ten assists in that time.

That has now started to lead to some high-profile links with Asprilla emerging in recent weeks, and it appears Watford have now made their stance clear amid that interest from elsewhere.

Watford do not want to let Yaser Asprilla go

In recent months, it has been claimed that Spanish giants Barcelona and Italian champions Inter Milan are among those who are taking an interest Asprilla before the market opens this summer.

However, Watford's own perspective of the situation now appears to have emerged, with this latest update claiming that the Championship club have no intention of selling the Colombian

It is thought that while player trading will play a significant part in this summer's window for the club, they are optimistic they will be able to keep hold of Asprilla despite that.

A combination of being able to sell players that are deemed surplus to requirements, and the increased revenue brought in by the EFL's new TV deal, means the Hornets are apparently confident they can raise the funds they need without having to sell the Colombian.

Even so, it is noted that Watford would still be forced to consider a particularly high offer, although one they deem to be in that category is reported to be much higher than what Asprilla's suitors value him at.

As things stand, there are still just over two years remaining on the attacking midfielder's current contract, securing his future at Vicarage Road until the end of the 2025/26 season.

That therefore, ensures that Watford are not under pressure to sell Asprilla in the current transfer window.

Yaser Asprilla update is promising for the Hornets

After an underwhelming campaign that saw them well off the pace in the race for promotion from the Championship, this is at least encouraging for Watford.

Asprilla was undoubtedly one of the brighter sparks last season for Watford, who looked as though he could be important to any hopes the club have of pushing on next season.

Setting out a stance such as this that suggests they will be keeping him, therefore does offer some hope that he can help them to improve next season.

This does feel like a big summer for Watford, as Tom Cleverley oversees his first transfer window since being appointed as the club's permanent manager.

He is going to want to put together a squad that is capable of pushing back up the table, and as this suggests, the club seem confident they will be able to do that, without letting go of a key player in Asprilla.

That therefore bodes well for what they might be able to do next season, and shows a statement of intent from the club, given the level of interest the attacking midfielder is attracting.
