Watford have seen an approach to sign a left-back that Leeds United have been linked with in recent days knocked back, according to Sky Sports News.
The Hornets are active in the transfer window in the final days of the winter market and want to strengthen their defensive options.
The club have looked towards the Premier League for an option, with a loan offer lodged.
That has been for Newcastle United left-back Matt Targett, a player that Leeds were heavily linked with just days ago.
A move to Leeds was played down for Targett, but another Championship destination in Watford also looks off the table as Newcastle have turned down their loan approach.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has given only limited game time to Targett this season, playing him in one Premier League and one FA Cup game.
His only appearance in the league came off the bench in the match against Aston Villa in December.
However, with Lloyd Kelly set to go out of the door to Juventus and no sign of new arrivals at St James’ Park, Howe does not want to sanction an exit for Targett now.
