Viktor Gyokeres has spoken about the possibility of returning to the Premier League amid interest from Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners have made the Sporting CP striker their top target as Mikel Arteta seeks to bolster his attacking options ahead of a potential title tilt next season.
Reports in Portugal claim that Arsenal are willing to meet the €80 million price tag, consisting of an initial fee of a €65m fee plus €15m in add-ons, but Sporting are insisting on a fixed fee of €70m.
Gyokeres is said to be determined to get his move to north London, having reportedly rejected the opportunity to join other clubs while refusing to return for pre-season training, which is scheduled to begin on Saturday.
However, in an interview with French publication l’Equipe, the 27-year-old did not come across so uncompromising, leaving the possibility of staying in Lisbon open.
“Maybe,” was his answer when asked if he could leave Sporting this summer. “That’s football, you never know.
“I don’t think about it; we’ll see what happens. If something happens, it will. The most important thing for me is to play for a club that really wants me,” he said.
Gyokeres spent over three years at Brighton, but was sent out on loan three times and never a single top-flight appearance before joining Coventry City permanently in 2021.
Asked if joining a Premier League club was an option, the Sweden international said “it would be great revenge” to finally get his chance in the division.
“It’s one of the biggest leagues in Europe. I spent several years there without being able to play a single match. So, of course, it’s something I’d like to do. It would be great revenge!”
While Gyokeres did not directly address the reports linking him to Arsenal, he did praise Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba as players that have impressed him.
