Led by their maverick president Florentino Perez, Real Madrid lifted the La Liga title at the Valdebebas Sports City today at the crack of dawn, 10 in the morning. Interestingly enough, it is the earliest they have ever gotten this cup.

The President of the Federation, Pedro Rocha, handed over the trophy to the team as the players were all dressed in suits, ready to meet the big shots.

“We have to go to Cibeles because winning a very difficult league is the day to enjoy it,”  said the club captain Nacho as quoted by MARCA.

“We have to go to Cibeles more than ever, to celebrate and to give us encouragement for the Champions League final,” he added.

There was no need for the captain to rally the team because by then, the first fans were already flocking to where the players would be.

By 10 in the morning, with the sun blazing, thousands of fans were packing Sol and Cibeles. Some were even outside the Sports City. Real Madrid fans were going wild with joy for their team.

A trophy lift behind closed doors

The cup presentation was a bit unusual because they clinched the La Liga title while watching Barça lose to Girona.

Meanwhile, president Rocha made sure the fans got to see the trophy up close in the streets of Madrid.

Fans going to the Real Madrid-Alaves match next Tuesday will also get a chance to see it, although there won’t be another formal handover from Rocha. Instead, the whole team will present it.

A special day for Nacho

Nacho was the one who accepted the trophy from Rocha and it is the first League title he has won as the main captain.

He took on the role this season after Karim Benzema left and has already lifted two trophies: the Super Cup in Saudi Arabia and now this League title.

While lifting the cup did not bring about wild excitement in the morning, the real emotional moment will come when they present the title at Cibeles.
