In thrilling final held in the U.S, Chelsea delivered stunning performance under new manager Enzo Maresca cruising to 3 - 0 victory over Paris Saint Germain. Rising star Cole Palmer was the standout player in match that confirmed Chelsea's return to the global stage.
Adding to the spectacle, U.S. President Donald Trump attended the final as official guest and personally handed the trophy to captain Reece James.
However controversy erupted when Trump refused to leave the podium after the trophy presentation remaining part of the celebrations in front of roaring crowd.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Eric Trump the president’s son defended the move:
"He’s the Commander in Chief. The team invited him. They wanted the President of the U.S to hand over the trophy"
But not everyone was impressed. Cole Palmer admitted:
"I knew he’d be there but I didn’t expect him to come up with us. It was confusing, yeah"
Meanwhile defender Marc Cucurella was more direct saying he felt "scared" by Trump’s extended presence on stage.
