VfB Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade is set to join Newcastle United in a €90 million deal, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
Newcastle have been looking to bring a new striker to the St James’ Park club all summer and have finally landed one.
Woltemade is on his way to England to join the Magpies and has already said goodbye to his teammates.
His medical is scheduled for Friday and he is seen as a replacement for the wantaway Alexander Isak.
Newcastle are now likely to sell the Sweden international striker to Liverpool before the transfer deadline on Monday if the Reds meet their demands.
Woltemade, a 6ft 6in Germany international was first linked with the Toons last month, but Bayern Munich were looking to snap him up at the time.
The 23-year-old featured for his country’s under-21s at the European Under-21 Championship in June, bagging six goals to win the Golden Boot at the tournament.
Woltemade was also in solid form for Stuttgart last term, finding the back of the net 17 times in 33 appearances.
The German can also play behind a striker and on the wings, with his dribbling and technicality on the ball being some of his biggest strengths despite his height.
He is a constant aerial threat in both boxes, and his impressive vision and physicality should see him hit the ground running in the Premier League.
Newcastle knocked back £110m from Liverpool for Isak last month, and the Toons are believed to be looking for around £150m before agreeing to sell their most-prized possession.
They may not get up to that but the Anfield club are expected to return with an improved offer in the coming days.
Selling Isak for £130m would be good business for Newcastle, and manager Eddie Howe will hope Woltemade can be a perfect replacement for the Swede.
