A long list of former Milan legends will be in attendance for Sunday evening’s match between the Rossoneri and Genoa in Serie A, as the club celebrate their 125th anniversary this weekend.
Among them are Ballon d’Or winners Marco van Basten and Ruud Gullit, as well as compatriot Frank Rijkaard, plus several Italian greats such as Roberto Donadoni and Alessandro Costacurta.
There will be no Paolo Maldini in attendance, however, as he reportedly declined an invitation to attend. Several other key Milan players have pre-existing commitments with other clubs around the world this weekend, including Kaka and Alessandro Nesta.
There will be several pre-match tributes carried out to honour the club’s longstanding legacy, and players will also take to the pitch in a one-off retro shirt.
On what should be a special day in San Siro, there will also be a number of exciting prospects out on the pitch. Paulo Fonseca is set to start 17-year-old playmaker Mattia Liberali for the first time, while Alex Jimenez is due to replace Theo Hernandez at left-back.
