With the month of August almost coming to an end, Barcelona are facing a tight deadline, as they look to finish the Camp Nou’s first phase project.
Barcelona were slated to return to the iconic stadium after three back-to-back away matches to start the season. The club have already played two away matches and are set to take on Valencia on September 14, in what will be their first home game of the season.
Barça were supposed to play Valencia at the revamped Camp Nou. But as things stand, there is uncertainty surrounding the venue as the club have not been able to confirm the match readiness of the stadium.
Recent reports suggest that the City Council officials have flagged several issues that must be addressed by Monday if Barcelona are to receive a green flag.
While returning to Montjuic might have been a simple solution, it is no longer an option. Neither is Girona’s stadium nor even an away game at Valencia’s Mestalla.
Estadi Johan Cruyff is an option, but it doesn’t have the VAR system and does not meet La Liga’s criteria for minimum seating required. La Liga, however, might be willing to work around the situation.
Nevertheless, all of this has added a sea of doubt around the future, with Barcelona solely depending on the Camp Nou works to get completed earlier than expected.

In light of the uncertainty surrounding the venue of the Barcelona-Valencia game, the Valencia coach recently offered his two cents on the matter.
However, Carlos Corberan simply refused to comment on the matter, citing Valencia’s more immediate clash against Getafe tomorrow.
“When a game like Getafe is so preoccupied, I don’t think about anything else. My mind is that simple, especially when it comes to things that don’t depend on me,” he said (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
Corberan added that he doesn’t want to waste his energy on a matter that is not confirmed or right now relevant to his team.
“After the break, we’ll see. Now I don’t waste a single bit of energy, especially with a game like the one we have against Getafe coming up,” he added.
Corberan’s Valencia side have not started the new season on a strong note, notably registering just one point.
Barcelona, in contrast, are second in the table thanks to back-to-back wins over Levante and Mallorca.
