Valencia CEO Ron Gourlay has asked Ipswich Town’s Cameron Burgess, who is on Rangers’ wish list, to ‘wait’ to see if there are any centre-back departures from the club.
The Gers had a trophy-less last season, where their arch-rivals Celtic under Brendan Rodgers experienced another brilliant campaign.
Now the club hierarchy have experienced multiple changes at the top as new investors, including the 49ers, are set to oversee the club’s transfer business.
After considering multiple candidates carefully, former Southampton boss Russell Martin has been appointed to take the Gers towards success.
Rangers will need to get their transfer decisions on point to have a chance to challenge the Bhoys next season.
Even though they have been tipped to start their summer window slowly, they have identified some players they want to bring in.
Ipswich Town’s Australian defender, Burgess, is a player they have been widely linked with, but he has new suitors now.
And now, according to Spanish outlet El Desmarque, La Liga outfit Valencia, who have been keen, have communicated a message to his agents.
More than one of Valencia’s defenders could end up leaving the club this summer and the club CEO, Gourlay, has asked Burgess to wait to see if there is a departure.
The 29-year-old’s contract is expiring at the end of this month and Ipswich Town have offered the Australian a new contract.
Valencia like Burgess and if they need a centre-back then they would be keen to sign him.
Rangers will be keeping their eyes on the Australian’s situation and it is unclear just how long he might wait for Valencia.
