KANSAS CITY, Miss. — The United States fell 1-nil to Uruguay to conclude action in Group C of the 2024 CONMEBOL Copa America on Monday at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

The United States was an attacking threat from the start, with a buildup in the 13’, as Gio Reyna crossed a ball to Folarin Balogun, but Uruguay goalkeeper Sergio Rochet interrupted with the save.

Both sides had to turn to the bench early, with Uruguay turning to Cristian Olivera for the injured Maximiliano Araujo. Folarin Balogun had to exit for the U.S. in the 41’ as Ricardo Pepi came on.

Mathias Olivera scored the lone goal of the encounter in the 66’ with a hit in front of goal to follow up on a blocked free-kick attempt by Matt Turner.

Christian Pulisic had a look towards goal in the 74’, but his shot was blocked by Olivera and then cleared away by Manuel Ugarte.

Haji Wright had a hit inside the box in the 87’ but was denied by Rochet.

The U.S. continued pushing for the tying goal as Pulisic had a last look inside the box in the 90’+2 but could not get a clean hit toward the goal.

The result ends the United States’ participation with a group stage exit. It is the third time in five participations that the Stars and Stripes have not advanced to the knockout round.
