UPDATE on Maxi Beier’s ankle injury

In recent weeks, Maxi Beier has come into favor under Niko Kovač, earning a regular place in the starting eleven, either as one of a pair of strikers, or as part of a front-three. Borussia Dortmund’s match against Borussia Monchengladbach was no different as Beier retained his position in Dortmund's 3-2 win.

Unfortunately, Beier was on the receiving end of an awkward challenge in the 27th minute, which saw his leg and ankle caught under the body of a sliding opponent. It looked painful, but the young German received treatment and returned to action. I respect Maxi’s courage, but when he sat down off the play ball in the 35th minute, I knew his night was over. He was then replaced by Carney Chukwuemeka.

Thankfully, after a thorough assessment, it’s been reported that Maxi Beier has avoided any serious damage to his ankle, and there appears to be no structural injury. He could even be available for selection next weekend against Hoffenheim.

The 22-year-old German has made 43 appearances for the Black and Yellows this season in all competitions, scoring nine times and assisting five. He’s especially found prominence in recent weeks, with a superb run of form, scoring twice against Mainz, earning a pair of assists against SC Freiburg, and scoring the opening goal against FC Bayern Munich.

Borussia Dortmund have just four Bundesliga matches left, and sit seventh place in the league table, just four points shy of Champions League qualification. BVB and Niko Kovač will be looking to earn maximum points in this end-of-season push for European football.
