Liverpool are expected to make significant squad alterations this summer, and one of these will be in the striker position. Big-money number nine Darwin Nunez has struggled since his arrival from Benfica three years ago, and now will be the time that he brings his Anfield stay to a close.
Nunez has been a bit-part player since Arne Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp as manager last summer, with Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo having all been used ahead of him at striker at different stages of the season. And this has caused frustration for the Uruguayan international, who is very much warming to the idea of leaving Liverpool.
Nunez has been linked with many clubs over the course of the season, with one of them being Newcastle, who have Liverpool target Alexander Isak on their books – although chances of either deal taking place have hit the rocks in recent weeks.

Despite this, Nunez is very much expected to leave Liverpool during the summer transfer window, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
“The plan is clear since February and it hasn’t changed: Darwin Nunez, expected to leave Liverpool in the summer. After offer turned down by the club in January from Al Nassr, all options will be considered in the upcoming months.
Seven goals and five assists in 42 clubs appearances this season is not the return that Liverpool want from their number nine, which is why it is no surprise that they are very keen to get rid of Nunez in the summer. There should be many suitors for the 25-year-old, and this would allow the Premier League leaders to net a very good amount of money that can be put towards securing the services of a replacement.
