To say their Europa League final defeat had considerable repercussions on the side’s financial situation and morale, Manchester United haven’t had a bad start to the transfer window by any means.

Not only were they able to announce the signing of Matheus Cunha on the opening day of the first transfer period, but Bruno Fernandes opted to rebuff a lucrative proposal from Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal to instead commit his future to the club following yet another influential campaign from the skipper.

United remain locked in negotiations with Brentford to try and hash out an agreement for Bryan Mbeumo, having had their opening offer of £45 million plus £10m in add-ons rebuffed by the Bees. A deal is expected to come to fruition, though, as the forward gave his priority to the Red Devils over the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

United remain actively scouring the market for a new striker

Elsewhere, an out-and-out centre-forward is necessary this summer, and United have already suffered an early blow in the form of first-choice target Liam Delap favouring a move to Chelsea, presumably because they can offer him Champions League football next season.

Delap being just 22 years old with a full season as a starting striker under his belt in the Premier League made him the ideal candidate for United, along with the fact that Ipswich Town’s relegation meant he was available for a cut-price release clause of just £30 — as opposed to £40m had the Tractor Boys retained their top-flight status.

Dusan Vlahovic sets sights on United switch

INEOS chiefs have been given one option to consider, though. According to GiveMeSport, Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic is ‘desperate’ to seal a move to the Premier League after falling out of favour in Turin, with Old Trafford viewed as his preferred destination.

He is expected to be on the move in the coming months and is ‘confident’ he can prove himself in England whilst doing a job for the struggling Reds, who scored a measly 44 league goals throughout 2024/2025.

25-year-old Vlahovic, hailed as ‘extraordinary’ by ex-teammate Federico Bernardeschi, notched 15 goals and five assists in 41 appearances across all competitions last term. He is, however, thought to be looking to earn around £200,000 per week at his next club, which could well deter INEOS from even entertaining a move.
