Borussia Dortmund find themselves in ninth place in the UEFA Champions League standings with two matchdays left to play in the league phase.
Borussia Dortmund were handed their first home defeat of the season by FC Barcelona on Wednesday evening, as they lost 3-2 despite a brace from Serhou Guirassy. The Black and Yellows' second defeat of their UEFA Champions League campaign sees them drop to ninth place in the standings with two matchdays still to come.
The top eight teams will automatically qualify for the round of 16. And despite slipping to ninth place, Borussia Dortmund will fancy their chances of finishing in the top eight after the end of matchday eight. Next up for Nuri Sahin's side in the Champions League is a trip to Italian side Bologna, before they conclude their league phase campaign at home to Shakhtar Donetsk.
Liverpool lead the UEFA Champions League standings with six wins out of six. FC Barcelona are second, with Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen, Aston Villa, and Inter Milan among the other teams currently in the top eight.
Bayern Munich are tenth, with Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Juventus also currently in the 9-24th place bracket. Teams that finish from 9-24th will take part in a playoff round to qualify for the round of 16.
Paris Saint-Germain and VfB Stuttgart are among the teams currently facing elimination from the UEFA Champions League, while RB Leipzig have already been eliminated from round of 16 contention having lost all six of their matches so far.
