Watford reportedly have familiar company in the race for young Lazio wingback Romano Floriani Mussolini.
Despite the transfer block imposed by COVISOC, the Biancocelesti were able to exercise their option to buy back the 22-year-old who impressed last season in Serie B while representing Juve Stabia.
However, Claudio Lotito and Angelo Fabiani had emphasized the importance of trimming the squad from 30 to 20 first-team players due to the absence of European football. So unless Maurizio Sarri decides to prevent the player’s departure, Mussolini is expected to leave the club.
According to Il Corriere dello Sport (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the young Italian has a higher market value than the likes of Manuel Lazzari and Elseid Hysaj, so he’s considered one of the profiles who can help the club generate fresh funds and subsequently settle their accounts. Lazio are reportedly aiming to collect €10 million from the player’s sale.
In recent days, Watford emerged as a potential destination. The Championship club is owned by the Puzzo family who often turn to their homeland, Italy, when seeking market reinforcement. Nevertheless, the source also mentions Udinese as another suitor, which creates an interesting situation, given that the Zebrette share the same owners with The Hornets.
Moreover, the report also reveals that another unnamed club has already contacted Mussolini’s agents. Hence, there could be some important developments on this particular track in the coming days.
