Chelsea’s hunt for a new manager is underway and we all know their main targets: Kieran McKenna and Enzo Maresca, who coaches who got promoted from the Championship to the Premier League this season.

But our writer Simon Phillips has added a new name to the mix – that of Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic.

“Two sources have confirmed this interest” to Phillips, who insists “we might still see a new name or a name not being heavily reported come in.”

This would certainly be a massive curve ball. Despite Terzic’s success in Europe this year we’ve never really seen him in the frame for top jobs. He’s never managed a senior team other than Dortmund, and has had only limited success there.

There is just no question that fans would see that as a massive step down from Mauricio Pochettino, and would therefore the question of parting ways with the Argentine, even if there was the prospect of long term conflicts over transfers and such.

He also is a beloved figure at the club, and might not get on so well outside of that environment where he’s so comfortable.

Certainly we’ve seen nothing from a coaching angle which should really be putting him in the frame for the Chelsea job.

This sounds like a classic case of a smoke screen being used to distract from the fact that McKenna is our clear number one target, and is being chased by numerous other teams. But we’ve been wrong before, and nothing in football is impossible…
