Elseid Hysaj will be looking to put an end to his exile at Lazio by sealing a move in January. Luckily for the Albanian, two Serie A would be happy to offer him the opportunity to prove his worth on the pitch.
The 30-year-old has been on the club’s books since making a free transfer from Napoli in the summer of 2021. But with his mentor Maurizio Sarri gone, Hysaj has been omitted from the Serie A and Europa League squads this season, as Marco Baroni preferred four other full-backs (Marusic, Lazzari, Nuno Tavares and Pellegrini). Nevertheless, the Albania captain still managed to impress in his most recent appearance in the Coppa Italia, thus earning himself some suitors.
According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, Empoli and Lecce are both showing interest in the Lazio player. It has been recently reportedly that the Salentian club is preparing to launch an onslaught for Hysaj to the Via del Mare, while the Tuscans are already engaged in talks with Lazio for Jacopo Fazzini, so it remains to be seen if the discussion could expand to include the wantaway right-back.
Hysaj only earned nine minutes on the pitch in the first two Serie A rounds of the season before being left out of the squad. His only start this season occurred in the Coppa Italia victory over his former employers Napoli where he proved to be one of the finest performances on the pitch despite coming from a long hiatus. His contract with the Biancocelesti is valid until June 2026.
