The 65-year-old was attacked following the Blues’ 5-1 win over Club Brugge, as five men were detained for the attack which left the Manchester City fan suffering neurological damage.

Guido de Pauw was invited to the Etihad Stadium in November 2022 for Manchester City’s Premier League win over Fulham, and in the aftermath of the attack received messages from Pep Guardiola, Ilkay Gundogan, Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva and Rodri.

Five men were detained by Police for the attack on 19 October 2021, where de Pauw was attacked as he left a shop at the Drongen motorway service station.

One of the attackers took the 65-year-old’s Manchester City scarf, while the other assailant punched de Pauw and he fell back hitting his head on the ground, ending up in an coma for several days.

The two attackers were given initial three-year suspended sentences, however the assailants have been given a community sentence after an appeal to the Court of Appeal, according to VRT News in Brussels.

Two men have been sentenced to 300 hours of community service for the brutal attack, meanwhile three others were given 90 hours of community service and a suspended fine of €8,000 after reaching an out-of-court damages settlement with the victim.
