Ruben Loftus-Cheek is having a difficult time with AC Milan at the moment, but paradoxically Paulo Fonseca is set to hand him some big responsibility.
As Tuttosport (via MilanNews), Loftus-Cheek is clearly struggling this season and is no longer able to be as decisive as he was last year with goals, assists and great performances. So far his displays have not been convincing, and he has lost his starting spot as a result.
The Englishman is finding it quite difficult to deal with Paulo Fonseca’s tactical requests, particularly when the Portuguese has lined him up in front of the defence in the double pivot. He hasn’t been much better as an attacking midfielder either, the role he became accustomed to under Pioli.
However, there has been increased speculation about a potential formation change to a 4-3-3, and this could certainly be a positive development. RLC has publicly stated on several occasions that he feels at his best as a box-to-box player, the No.8 position.
Juventus are coming to San Siro on Saturday and Loftus-Cheek is a candidate for a starting shirt, perhaps competing for a place with Yunus Musah and Samuel Chukwueze. If Fonseca goes for a three-man midfield, it is a chance for the ex-Chelsea man to enjoy a new lease of life.
