On Saturday night against Empoli, the turning point came with the introduction of Christian Pulisic, Rafael Leao and Santiago Gimenez at half-time.
As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) reports this morning, the Milan fans couldn’t wait to see these three players along with Joao Felix, the only one of the four to start against Empoli. Now the question is whether Sergio Conceicao will use all four forwards from minute one against Feyenoord.
Conceiçao is very tempted by the idea, but also a bit apprehensive given that Milan will fly to the Netherlands battling an emergency. Warren Bondo and Riccardo Sottil have not been included in the list of players who will be able to play in the knockout phase due to a UEFA ruling.
There are then two other midfielders who will not be available, namely the injured Ruben Loftus-Cheek and the suspended Yunus Musah. With so many absentees in the middle of the pitch, Conceiçao’s choices are almost obligatory.
The only alternative to the 4-4-2 with the aforementioned attacking quartet is the inclusion from the first minute of Filippo Terracciano, which would mean a bit more balance especially in the none-possession phase.
We’ll see what the Rossoneri coach decides to do and clues will come in training, but the Portuguese will be aware of the fact that if he were to put Pulisic, Felix, Gimenez and Leao from the start then they must put in a shift defensively, otherwise it will be a long night for Youssouf Fofana and Tijjani Reijnders.
