Tottenham take on AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League tonight with a place in the competition’s quarter-finals up for grabs.
Ange Postecoglou’s side trail 1-0 from the first leg in the Netherlands and were fortunate to escape with only a one-goal deficit.
The Australian refused to comment on the suggestion that this clash is win-or-bust for his tenure, but he will be well aware of the pressure on his position. With Spurs 13th in the Premier League table, success in Europe offers the last opportunity of silverware and Champions League qualification.
AZ impressed to eliminate Galatasaray in the previous round and dominated the first-leg meeting. The Dutch side have not reached the quarter-finals of this competition since 2014.
Kevin Danso has become the latest Spurs centre-back to be struck down by injury. The Austrian has a hamstring issue, though the recent returns of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven can combat that loss. Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies remain sidelined.
Rodrigo Bentancur is suspended, while Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski are not expected back from injury until after the international break.
Tottenham predicted XI: Vicario; Spence, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bergvall, Sarr, Maddison; Johnson, Solanke, Son.
Spurs host AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League’s last 16 on Thursday March 13th 2025. Kick-off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is 20:00 GMT.
The second leg will be available to watch on TNT Sports 3 and Discovery+ UK.
