Tottenham Hotspur have moved quickly to trigger Morgan Gibbs-White’s £60 million release clause, with the Nottingham Forest midfielder now set for a medical.

Spurs had reportedly stepped up their pursuit of the England international, who new manager Thomas Frank has long admired.

The 25-year-old has emerged as one of the Premier League’s standout attacking midfielders in recent seasons, helping Forest secure European qualification last term with seven goals and ten assists.

He has made 118 appearances for Forest across all competitions, providing consistent creative output and establishing himself as a leader within the squad.

Although Manchester City previously explored a move for the midfielder, Spurs are now in pole position and confident of completing the transfer without resistance after meeting the fixed release figure.

Forest, who have already agreed a £52m deal to sell Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United, face the prospect of losing another key performer in quick succession.

Tottenham have already secured deals for Mohammed Kudus, Mathys Tel, Kevin Danso and Kota Takai, and now look set to add Gibbs-White to their growing list of summer recruits.

Frank previously targeted the player during his time at Brentford and views him as an ideal fit for the number ten role in his preferred 4-2-3-1 system.

Gibbs-White’s ability to play deeper in midfield or drift wide also offers tactical flexibility, which could prove valuable in a squad that already includes James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Kudus.

The move will also benefit Wolves, who are set to receive a tenth of the transfer fee under the terms of the deal that took Gibbs-White to Forest.

Tottenham’s strategy under Frank is beginning to take shape, and the addition of one of the league’s most productive English midfielders marks another significant step in that rebuild.
