The foundations have been laid by Ange Postecoglou in north London, with many expecting an ascent up the Premier League table in his second season in charge.

2023/24 was a fairly topsy-turvy campaign for Tottenham Hotspur after a blistering start but they steadied themselves on the final day to secure fifth place and a spot in the Europa League. Given the absence of Harry Kane and the misery that previous regimes brought supporters, there's no denying that last term was a fruitful one for the Lilywhites.

Postecoglou, however, will not be resting on his laurels and the Spurs squad should look considerably different for 2024/25 with shirt numbers potentially altering. The Lilywhite faithful should also have plenty of fresh faces to cheer on.

Here are Tottenham's squad numbers for the 2024/25 season.

Tottenham's newest recruit Archie Gray has taken on the heavy number 14 shirt previously worn by David Ginola and Luka Modric in north London. The club has high hopes for the teenager, who joined from Leeds United in a deal worth as much as £40m.

The club no longer has a number one following Hugo Lloris' departure and Guglielmo Vicario's decision to take the number 13 shirt upon arrival. Starting right-back Pedro Porro took 23 when he joined in January 2022, meaning the club doesn't have a number 2 either.

The number 1 shirt is unlikely to be claimed for 2024/25 unless Vicario opts for a change, with Spurs not expected to bring in a new goalkeeper this summer. The number 2 shirt may also remain vacant with no additions expected in defence.

While teenager Gray has opted for 14, Swedish sensation Lucas Bergvall is yet to have his number confirmed for his first season in north London. 19, 25, 26, 28, 31 and 32 are the lowest numbers available.

There are, however, expected to be several departures before the squad lists for the new season are confirmed. If the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Bryan Gil, Emerson Royal and Giovani Lo Celso leave, the 5, 11, 12 and 18 shirts will be vacated.

What numbers can Premier League players wear?

The Premier League's rules when it comes to shirt numbers are relaxed. Players can wear any number between one and 99 as long as it is unique within the squad. Numbers 1-30 are typically occupied by first teamers, although Spurs had several regulars forced to take bigger numbers during their debut seasons.

Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie wore numbers 37 and 38 respectively, for example.

Goalkeepers will typically wear either number 1 or 13 with Tottenham's shot-stopper Vicario opting for the latter while Hugo Lloris was still in town. Zero is not allowed.

Premier League players can change their squad number during pre-season or if one is sold or loaned to another club in the January transfer window.

Shirt numbers must be confirmed via squad submission lists by a specified deadline each year and numbers cannot be changed thereafter. These deadlines, in the summer and winter, arrive just after the transfer windows.
