Tottenham Hotspur are back in the hunt for Italian midfielder Nicolo Fagioli, who has fallen out of favour under Juventus boss Thiago Motta, according to Tuttosport.

The 23-year-old has struggled for playing time this season, failing to crack the starting line-up since a UEFA Champions League defeat in October.

Fagioli has only played 90 minutes twice this season, and most of his playing time in the league has come off the bench. There are matches in which Motta didn’t even bring the player on.

This lack of opportunity and the reported dissatisfaction from Motta regarding Fagioli’s performances and attitude has pushed the Italian midfielder towards the exit door.

Despite supporting Fagioli through a betting ban and extending his contract in 2023, the Bianconeri are open to offers in the January transfer window. They are looking for offers of around £20 million. This is an opportunity for Tottenham, who were previously interested in Fagioli before his stock rose in Turin.

Spurs have enjoyed success signing players from Serie A, such as Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur. The North London club has a history of unearthing gems from Italy, and Fagioli could be the next success story.

Fagioli is a versatile midfielder capable of playing as the anchor or in a more box-to-box role. He would provide valuable depth to Tottenham’s engine room.

However, Spurs are not alone in their pursuit of the talented Juventus star. Olympique Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi, who seems keen on assembling all the footballers with a bad rap sheet, is unsurprisingly interested in his signature.

Crystal Palace and West Ham United also have him on their radar, but Tottenham might have the edge, having done business with the Old Lady recently.

Disgraced Tottenham sporting director Fabio Paratici still reportedly runs things at the club despite being banned by FIFA and he could help smoothen negotiations with his former club.
