Tottenham produced their best display so far under Thomas Frank to beat Arsenal 1-0 in Hong Kong.

The Spurs boss named a strong side for the north London derby and he was rewarded with an impressive performance that offered plenty of encouragement ahead of the new season.

Pape Matar Sarr scored the only goal of the match, spotting David Raya off his line and lifting a superb finish over him from close to the halfway line.

Here’s how we rated the Spurs players in their derby win...

Guglielmo Vicario 6

Did not have a save to make until the 70th minute. Distribution not entirely convincing, for all it was a bobbly surface.

Pedro Porro 8

Almost scored direct from a corner in the first half, his delivery could be a real weapon this season. Not hugely attacking in open play but superb defensively, keeping Martinelli very quiet.

Cristian Romero 7

Some nervy moments, as ever, but won the physical battle against Kai Havertz. One outrageous nutmeg in his own box on the German in the first half.

Micky van de Ven 7

Rock solid at the back. Had an important screening role on David Raya from corners, and should have scored himself from a second-half header.

Djed Spence 7

Had some tough moments in the first half but improved after the break. Not easy against Bukayo Saka and then Max Dowman, stood up to the test well.

Rodrigo Bentancur 6

Booked for a cynical trip on Saka after losing the ball but otherwise tidy enough at the base of midfield.

Pape Matar Sarr 7

Energetic in his box-to-box role and brilliantly caught Raya off his line for the goal. He’s now scored three goals in pre-season, one of the standout performers this summer.

Lucas Bergvall 5

Worked hard off the ball, pressing right up alongside Richarlison, but had little impact in the No10 role. Frank will be glad to have James Maddison fit again.

Another display to get the Spurs fans excited. A constant threat and caused Myles Lewis-Skelly real problems, while also working hard off the ball to track back.

Richarlison 4

Failed his audition in the absence of Dominic Solanke. Header blocked from one header in the first half and then failed to turn it in from a yard out after Kudus’ corner hit the woodwork. Barely involved after that.

Wilson Odobert 7

Not as threatening as Kudus but still did enough to catch the eye. Unlucky not to score in first half when denied by the post.

Subs:

Kevin Danso (Romero 63’) 6

Great header shortly after coming on to clear a dangerous corss, slotted into the defence confidently.

Mathys Tel (Richarlison 63’) 5

Limited opportunities to push his case for further involvement as Spurs sat deep in their own half for much of the final 30 minutes.

Brennan Johnson (Kudus 63’) 5

Hardly had a kick on the right wing. Impact was in stark contrast to the performance of Kudus. Booked late on.

Heung-min Son (Odobert 78’) 6

Huge roars whenever he touched the ball in his brief cameo but that was as good as it got.

Yves Bissouma (Bergvall 78’) 6

Sat in front of the defence as Spurs dropped off. No real demands of him on the ball.

Ben Davies (Van de Ven 78’) 6

Came on at centre-back alongside Danso and was not seriously tested.

James Maddison (Sarr 85’) N/A

Archie Gray (Bentancur 85’) N/A
