Tottenham Hotspur have held talks with Brentford over a deal to sign Bryan Mbeumo as the club look to hijack Manchester United’s move for the winger.
Mbeumo is expected to leave Brentford this summer and the Bees have already rejected an initial offer from Manchester United, worth £55m including add-ons, for the 25-year-old.
Despite rival interest from Arsenal and Newcastle, Mbeumo has indicated that Manchester United is his preferred destination. However, the appointment of Thomas Frank at Tottenham has opened up the race.
Frank is keen to reunite with Mbeumo in North London, following his arrival from Brentford as Ange Postecoglou’s successor. The Dane has signed a three-year contract with Spurs and moves to the club alongside several of his Brentford coaching staff.
Sky Sports are reporting that Spurs have now held initial talks with Brentford over a potential deal to sign Mbeumo.
The Cameroon international thrived under Frank’s management at Brentford and scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season, assisting seven more.
Despite favouring Manchester United, a reunion with Frank and the prospect of Champions League football could prove persuasive.
Spurs have several targets in mind as the club look to sign another wide player. There is also interest from the North Londoners in Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo. The Cherries value the 25-year-old north of £50m.
