Tottenham Prioritise Rodrygo as Son Exit Prompts €60 Million Real Madrid Move

Rodrygo Becomes Top Target for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a formal approach for Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes following the confirmed departure of club captain Heung-Min Son to LAFC. As reported by Cadena Ser, “Son’s departure from Tottenham has made Rodrygo Goes the English club’s number one target. The London club is considering an offer of €60 million and variables, like the one it could present to Real Madrid for the Brazilian forward.”

This level of interest is a clear statement of intent from Spurs. In what is now Thomas Frank’s first full transfer window at the helm, the North London club is in the midst of reshaping its attacking identity. With Son gone and James Maddison recovering from injury, the need for an elite-level addition in the final third has become urgent.

Rodrygo, 23, fits the profile of a modern forward; fast, agile, technically gifted and already seasoned at the highest level with Real Madrid and Brazil. If Spurs are to convince him to leave the Bernabéu, it will require both financial commitment and a clear vision for his role.

Madrid Squad Overhaul Leaves Rodrygo at Risk

Real Madrid’s summer transfer activity has been busy, and with the arrivals of Franco Mastantuono, Marc Guiu Carreras, Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold, the club is now focused on reducing the squad. Cadena Ser note that “the club is working on an ‘exit operation’” and Rodrygo “is the one who should leave and the one they can get the most money for.”

Despite this, Rodrygo has continued to train diligently at Valdebebas, with reports suggesting he was “one of the last to leave Real Madrid’s training ground” on Monday. He is determined to prove his value to new manager Xabi Alonso, who is still assessing his options ahead of the LaLiga opener against Osasuna on August 19th.

Alonso’s preference for a two-striker system, shaped by his success at Bayer Leverkusen, leaves Rodrygo in a challenging position. With Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Jr locked into starting roles, and Gonzalo García impressing during the Club World Cup, space in the final third is limited.

Endrick and García Add Pressure in Madrid’s Attack

The arrival of young talent like Endrick and the emergence of García further complicate Rodrygo’s situation. García, in particular, is fresh from winning the Golden Boot at the Club World Cup, strengthening his case for first-team inclusion.

Endrick, while injured and yet to train under Alonso, has made his intentions clear. He wants to remain and succeed at Real Madrid, even going as far as bringing his own physiotherapist with him on his honeymoon to aid his recovery. While he may be less likely to feature early on, his long-term place in the squad is being closely monitored.

The combination of Real Madrid’s tactical shift and player influx creates a window of opportunity for Tottenham. If they can act swiftly and decisively, Rodrygo could well be prised from the Spanish capital this summer.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

For Tottenham supporters, this feels like a moment of ambition. Losing Heung-Min Son has left a huge emotional and tactical gap. While there is no like-for-like replacement for someone so iconic, Rodrygo would come as close as you could hope for in the current market.

He is fast, technical, hard-working and, crucially, still has room to develop. His experience with Real Madrid in both La Liga and the Champions League makes him a ready-made performer for the Premier League. If Spurs want to show that they are serious about challenging again, this is exactly the kind of deal they need to pull off.

Supporters will be wary of delays. Tottenham have, in the past, missed out on key targets due to drawn-out negotiations. This time, with Thomas Frank in charge and a clearly defined need for attacking reinforcements, fans want urgency and clarity.

The quoted €60 million, plus variables, feels like a calculated risk, and one worth taking. If Spurs can land Rodrygo, it would not only soften the blow of Son’s departure but also offer a new focal point for Frank to build around.
