The Spurs captain is running out of time to get match fit ahead of the Europa League final
Tottenham captain Heung-min Son remains a doubt to make his return from injury against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Son has missed the last six Spurs games due to a troublesome foot injury, including the team’s victories in the Europa League quarter-final and semi-final, but has been back in training for a number of days.
With the Europa League final just 11 days away, Ange Postecoglou will be keen to give his skipper minutes before a potential starting berth in Bilbao, but minutes off the bench on Sunday remain unlikely.
Asked if Son could feature against the Eagles, Postecoglou said: “I’m half hopeful that we'll get Sonny for some minutes.”
Son’s seemingly slow progress on returning from injury will be a concern for Spurs. The captain is running out of time to get match fit ahead of the club’s biggest game in six years.
In better news, the squad returned from their win over Bodo/Glimt in Norway with no fresh fitness concerns, but Postecoglou will make significant changes on Sunday.
Asked about managing the fitness of his players during an injury-ravaged season, Postcoglou said: “We have tried to navigate that for the last couple of months. particularly with Micky [van de Ven], [Cristian] Romero and Destiny [Udogie] to have missed a huge chunk of the season. When these guys come back you really have to manage them.
“Romero and Micky had a couple of setbacks after coming back so we have to change our path and processes and part of that is just managing their minutes. They need to get some game time before the final, though unlikely to be tomorrow.
“When we played Tamworth [on an artificial pitch] we got a couple injuries because of the surface, so we have to be really careful about tomorrow’s game. Next Friday [against Aston Villa] is a bit different. Ultimately we want to be in great condition come the final.”
