Paris Saint-Germain might be feeling some relief as Real Madrid appear to be shifting their focus away from Achraf Hakimi for their right-back position.
Back in June, Mario Cortegana from The Athletic reported that Real Madrid was eyeing Hakimi as a potential successor to Dani Carvajal. The Spanish club views the Moroccan as a strong candidate for their right-back role.
Cortegana also pointed out that Hakimi is an attractive option for Madrid because he came through their academy, has a close relationship with Kylian Mbappé, and is under contract until 2026. This means he would have just one year left on his deal after this season.
The latest information reveals that Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold could be the top target for Real Madrid, considering the player will only cost them his wages since he’s a pending free agent.
La Liga insider Matteo Moretto provided information on his most recent Daily Briefing comments to CaughtOffside.
“They are keen on renewing Dani Carvajal, and if nothing goes wrong, he will extend his contract,” Moretto said.
“He is still a key piece of the dressing room, but with Trent Alexander-Arnold, the opportunity to potentially bring in a player of his quality on a free is too good to miss. He remains very, very highly regarded by Los Blancos.”
