Tony Docherty tells Dundee side to stick together at Celtic Park | OneFootball

Tony Docherty has said that his Dundee side will need to stick together at Celtic Park after individual mistakes cost them at the weekend. The Dark Blues were beaten 2-1 by Tayside rivals St Johnstone and now face the daunting task of a trip to Glasgow to face Brendan Rodgers’ table-toppers.

Dundee are currently 8th in the table, albeit having played a game less than Ross County and St Johnstone, who are a point above them.

Speaking to Dee TV, Docherty said that his side had to work on conceding goals but that the clash against the Scottish Champions has come too soon.

“That’s something we will deal with in-house because I thought we’d eradicated that.

“The Motherwell game I thought was an example of that.

“But the individual mistakes and taking responsibility is something we have to address and get to the bottom of.

“I think it’s important, we’re going into a game against Celtic so we don’t have any time.

“We will analyse it, we will be honest about it and people will have to take responsibility for their role in defending that last set-play.

“We will get on with it and look at the next game.

“We do seem to be getting punished for every mistake we make but I am a great believer in if you keep believing in what you’re doing, keep that trust and keep the group together then you’ll get you rewards for it.

“It’s important we do that and stick together.”

The message from Docherty appears to be that his side will look to remain compact at Celtic Park and attempt to frustrate the hosts. Earlier this year, Dundee were on the receiving end of a blistering performance by Celtic, which saw the visitors from Tayside thumped 7-1.

Docherty and his team will be keen to make amends for that display, in which they were ruthless blown away by Rodgers’ side in the first half. Although, that will likely be in the back of their minds and might even see the visitors retreat even deeper into their own half.
