Manchester United recently parted ways with manager Erik ten Hag following a run of four wins from 14 appearances in all competitions.
Ruud van Nistelrooy was immediately appointed as the caretaker, but he will step down from the position when Ruben Amorim joins the club.
The Portuguese has agreed to sign for the Red Devils from Sporting CP and he will start his new job when the next international break begins.
His arrival could be good news for some United players and here are three who could benefit.
Manuel Ugarte
The Uruguayan joined the club from Paris Saint-Germain after much hype over the summer, but he has made just league one start so far.
The midfielder failed to convince Ten Hag to start him regularly. The Dutchman constantly said that the 23-year-old has to adapt to the tactics.
However, we can expect him to become a mainstay in the starting XI under Amorim, considering their good time together at Sporting CP.
Ugarte was an undisputed starter under Amorim for two seasons where he established himself as one of the most-sought after defensive midfielders.
His move to Paris Saint-Germain did not prove worthwhile. Amorim’s arrival at United could bring the best out of Ugarte in the coming months.
Diogo Dalot
Dalot spoke fondly about Amorim in a Sky Sports interview. He said that Amorim is a fantastic coach with very high standards and is perfect for the club.
The 25-year-old has largely played out of position at left-back this season with the injury absence of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia for some period of time.
Of late, he has moved back into his customary right-back role. Under Amorim, he could have more attacking freedom with the extra central defensive cover.
The Portuguese likes to operate with a back three and he is expected to adopt the same system.
This could be a good thing for Dalot who is known for his attacking traits. He could make more overlapping runs without fear of being caught out of position.
Leny Yoro
The French wonderkid has yet to make his competitive debut for United, having picked up a foot injury in pre-season. However, he is not far away from returning to team training.
The 18-year-old was initially signed to partner Lisandro Martinez in central defence, but the club went on to pursue a deal for Matthijs de Ligt, who has now become a mainstay.
Despite this, Yoro could become a regular in the starting XI, considering Amorim’s preference for a 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 formation. He could start in the middle of the back three for United.
We could see a drastic improvement in the club’s defensive record going forward. Yoro is strong with the ball at his feet and has an aerial presence. His return would be a huge boost.
