Thomas Müller appears to rule out Sydney FC links in video message | OneFootball

German footballing legend Thomas Müller has appeared to quash rumors linking him with Australia’s Sydney FC. In a Saturday-released video message, the 35-year-old Bundesliga record champion noted that he would be making a “über den großen Teich” a German phrase that translates to “across the pond.” The “pond“, in this context, refers to the Atlantic rather than the Pacific ocean.

It’s thus almost certainly the case that Müller will be moving to one of two clubs in America’s MLS. FC Cincinnati retains Müller’s “discovery rights”. Los Angeles FC nevertheless appears to be Müller’s more likely destination, even if Müller has received a bit of a ribbing about joining the California outfit from fellow German legend Uli Hoeneß.

Should Müller join LAFC, he’ll find himself once again contesting a fierce rivalry against Borussia Dortmund legend Maro Reus. Müller and Reus – after years of squaring off in the Dortmund-Bayern fixture non-Germans refer to as “Der Klassisker” – will now play on opposite sides of the city derby known as “El Traffico”.

Müller specifically stated that a decision on his future club would come on Monday in the video. The player’s instagram post concluded with him mounting a horse cowboy-style and riding into the sunset. This in itself doesn’t confirm a USA move as Müller – together with his wife – is a professional rancher.
