Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank insists they must not repeat the mistakes of last season that led to their players getting so many injuries.

Last campaign Spurs suffered with injuries to important players such as Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario, all of whom missed large parts of the campaign.

The lack of players available was a key factor in the club losing 22 games in the Premier League and eventually finishing 17th in the table.

The new Spurs boss is keen for his side not to have a repeat of last season.

“I think no doubt that having a available fit squad or close to 100% availability is difficult because I think there’s a lot of talk about the amount of games the players are playing and the tempo in the games are going up.” Frank said.

“We need to learn from last season. I have some ideas of what I think we can improve and do better and it should be possible to improve it.

“Hopefully the way we train, building layers and building robustness into the players is going to be a big part of and how we can make the players more available throughout the season.”

The Dane was also asked about his style of play, and he insisted that he aims to play attacking football but with his team capable of defending as well.

“We want to play brave, aggressive and attacking football and I am convinced we’ll score a lot of goals, but we need to be able to defend also if we want to win football matches.

“I haven’t seen one single team having success without being able to defend. That’s not saying that we don’t want to attack.

“So we need to be brave but also have a nice mixture. We will pragmatic sometimes when we need to be”

Spurs’ victory in the Europa League last season ended a 17-year wait for their first piece of silverware, and Frank insists that he wants his side to compete for more trophies this year.

“It is a huge club. It’s a club where we need to compete, as I said, in a lot of different competitions.”

“I would like to compete in all four tournaments and we will take it one game at a time.”
