This made my decision easier on whether or not I wanted Arsenal to beat PSG

It is PSG v Arsenal tonight.
The big question though is…
Do I want Arsenal to win in Paris and turn around this semi-final tie against PSG?
I have seen and heard various debates amongst Newcastle United fans, along the lines of if Arsenal get to the Champions League Final, it will help Eddie Howe and his team in their final away game of the season.
That Mikel Arteta would be playing a weakened team against Newcastle, if having a Champions League final coming up and nothing to play for in the league. That Arsenal players would be looking after themselves, not wanting to get injured.
I thought about it but…I just can’t want Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal fans getting to the Champions League Final and with a chance of then winning it. It turns my stomach the very thought of it, especially the way that Arsenal have behaved previously.
To be fair, a fair few Arsenal fans were pretty decent after the League Cup semis, admitting that Newcastle United had outplayed and outclassed their team. However, the ridiculous way the Arsenal fanbase and their entire club have gone on previously, especially all that way over the top stuff when Anthony Gordon scored the winner in that 1-0 at St James’ Park a couple of years ago, it lingers in the memory.
Mikel Arteta especially, he makes lame excuses to a ludicrous degree. What he said after that Gordon winning goal and then his club putting out an official statement the next day backing everything he’d said, a club totally without class was all you could think.
The thing is as well, this made my decision even easier to want Arsenal to get absolutely hammered tonight in Paris.
I don’t think Arsenal winning or losing against PSG will make any difference at all when it comes to the Arsenal v Newcastle match.
So if I believe that, then obviously I can only want Arsenal to get beat and exit the Champions League tonight.
This is their remaining schedule…
PSG v Arsenal (8pm) Wednesday 7 May
Arsenal v Liverpool (4.30pm) Sunday 11 May
Arsenal v Newcastle (4.30pm) Sunday 18 May
Southampton v Arsenal (4pm) Sunday 25 May
Possible Champions League Final (8pm) Saturday 31 May
If say Newcastle United were playing Arsenal on the final day of the Premier League season, only six days before the Champions League Final, then maybe I would think Newcastle’s chances at the Emirates would be higher if Arsenal got to the final.
However, NUFC play Arsenal 13 days before the Champions League and I think Mikel Arteta will name his best available team regardless of whether in the final or not. They are playing in front of their own fans (against Newcastle) and if beating PSG they would be playing for their places in the team for the final. So the idea of them jumping out of tackles to avoid injury is just wishful thinking.
I also prefer to think as well that Arsenal losing to PSG tonight could even give NUFC a better chance in that match against the Gunners. A demoralised team with nothing left to play for this season and downing tools, heads on the beach and so on. As opposed to if they beat PSG they’ll be buzzing and full of it in the lead up to the Champions League final.
Anyway, enjoy the match, whoever you want to win just so long as it is PSG!
