Matt Law has done his transfer special for the London is Blue podcast this week, and as always at this time of year it’s full of interesting snippets.

The big stories – Xavi Simons, Jorrel Hato and so on – are being covered everywhere. The less glamorous ones are what we’re interested in, and Law did have a big of chatter about a midfielder who has been largely forgotten.

Chelsea still expect to find permanent Ugochukwu move says Law

Lesley Ugochukwu was highly regarded when he came to Chelsealet’s not forget we paid a hefty €27.5m for him – and got a few chances under Mauricio Pochettino in his first 6 months before being loaned out. That move to Southampton didn’t go so well, and now, before you know it, he’s up for sale.

We’ve barely heard a whisper about any teams being interest in him, although Law insists Chelsea are still confident:

“I’m told there is an expectation he will leave permanently. They expect to sell him rather than loan him.”

Well that is positive

Ugochukwu not the only Chelsea player who needs progress on a move

Moving on Ugochukwu would be a start, but there’s so much more than that that needs to be done.  The fact that we’ve done so well in terms of buying players and have got into the busy period of loaning youngsters out has slightly distracted from our struggle to sell first team players who have been up for sale for months now. There’s also Armando Broja, Carney Chukwuemeka, Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku and Raheem Sterling alongside Ugochukwu, and plenty more besides that.

It’s not time to panic yet, but we would certainly like to see a little more concrete progress on some of these deals next week.

Who remembers Alex Matos?
