Despite it not feeling like it come the final whistle, there were positives to take from last night’s 2-all draw with Brentford for Manchester City. One of those was the performance of Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian international turned back the clock last night at the GTech Community Stadium. He put in an inspired performance last night, and on another night, it may have been crucial to a City win. But despite last night’s result, De Bruyne’s performance was still fantastic to see.

Kevin De Bruyne looked fully fit last night and you could see the difference in his play. The drive in his legs was there and that makes all of the difference in his game. It wasn’t the De Bruyne of 4/5 seasons ago, but it was the De Bruyne we have become accustomed to seeing. He did all he could for his team and he was at the heart of Manchester City’s attacking play. Despite the Manchester City legend getting on in years, he can still torment an opponent’s defence.

Kevin De Bruyne picked up an assist during last night’s match. It was his cross which Phil Foden poked home to give Manchester City a 1-nil lead. It was a trademark cross from the midfielder. It was one we have seen time and time again from the midfielder during his time at Manchester City. He also created several other opportunities as De Bruyne looked to be back to his best. Going forward that is a huge positive for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Kevin De Bruyne showed that there is still life in legs last night against Brentford. That is good news for Pep Guardiola’s side as they chase a top four finish and silverware over the second half of the season. He will have a vital role to play for the remainder of the season and the hope is that his performance last night is the standard that he plays at for the remainder of the season.
