Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is planning to give Pedro Fernandez ‘Dro’ and Juan Hernandez a real shot during the upcoming pre-season, according to a report from SPORT.

While the squad and staff are currently enjoying their summer break, the planning for pre-season is well underway, and this summer presents a valuable opportunity for several La Masia talents to step up and impress the new coaching team.

This year’s pre-season will be unlike the previous one, as most first-team players are expected to start the preparations from day one.

That will allow Flick to assess youth players in a full competitive environment, surrounded by the main squad.

Among those set to benefit are Jofre Torrents, a promising left-back who will also get a chance to prove his worth from the start, along with Dro and Juan Hernandez.

The dynamic youth team duo

Pedro Fernandez, nicknamed Dro, was one of the standout players for Cadete A last season, where he was coached by Arnau Blanco, now part of Flick’s technical team.

His familiarity with Blanco could help smoothen his integration into first-team dynamics and increase his chances of making a solid impression.

Hernandez, meanwhile, is a name already known to the coaching staff. The versatile talent has consistently moved between Juvenil A and Barça Atletic, showcasing his ability to operate in different roles.

He was originally a false ‘9’ or a left winger in his early La Masia years, but has adapted to deeper or more creative positions as needed, something that fits well with Flick’s known appreciation for positional flexibility.

Both Dro and Juan were already seen training with the senior team last week, which fuelled speculation about a potential call-up for the match against Athletic Club in Bilbao.

Although they ultimately didn’t make the trip, their presence at those sessions clearly signals that they are on Flick’s radar.
