The Times: ‘Only wants Milan’ – how Kiwior is affecting Arsenal’s Calafiori deal

In January, AC Milan made attempts to sign Jakub Kiwior from Arsenal, and whilst their attempts were unsuccessful, it never finished like a closed chapter.

The mercato is a beautiful conundrum for football clubs, that as fans, we adore – at times. It is a time when old sparks are relit, for good, and bad, and we have already seen multiple examples of this in the mercato already.

Old sparks are not just players, though, sometimes, it can be positions, and the same players can come back into conversations, again, which we have seen this mercato. Looking back to January, Milan were desperate for a central defender, but they did not pay for a new one, instead, they recalled Matteo Gabbia, who has done a stellar job.

However, the issue has not been fully solved, and with Simon Kjaer’s departure, there is a clear need for at least one more central defender at the club, and it seems the ideal candidate from January could be on the cards again.

In the past fortnight, it has been suggested that the Rossoneri are one of several clubs who are ‘pushing’ for Kiwior, and a report from The Times (via Pianeta Milan) may make a move more likely.

The report suggests that the Polish defender was attempted to be included in a deal by Arsenal for Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, but the 24-year-old refused to leave for Bologna, instead stating that he is waiting for a proposal from the Diavolo.

Of course, this does not mean a move will happen tomorrow, but getting the ‘come and get me’ plea from a player who you are ‘pushing’ for makes the situation very interesting.
