The Roma Player Most Likely To Win Euro 2024

AS Roma had a good 2023/2024, albeit it was one that ended without a trophy. The closest they came was in the Europa League when they were beaten by Bayer Leverkusen. Ordinarily, that would mean that AS Roma players would end the campaign without a trophy. But this isn’t an ordinary summer. With Roma providing a bunch of players to countries playing in the Euro 2024 tournament, there’s still a chance that the club experiences some silverware, albeit indirectly.

And there’s more than a fair chance that it happens, given the nations involved. Let’s take a look at which Roma player(s) are most likely to walk away with a medal.

Italy: An Unlikely Victory?

Gianluca Mancini, Bryan Cristante, Stephen El Shaarawy, and Lorenzo Pellegrini are all in the Italian squad for the tournament, so if Italy can pull off a victory, there’ll be plenty of celebrations at Stadio Olimpico when club football gets back underway.

Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? That’s hard to answer. Italy didn’t exactly dazzle in the group stages, but they’ve shown enough that they may be ready to perform once the business end of the tournament gets underway.

Rui Patricio: Portugal

AS Roma fans might prefer that one of their players appearing for the Italian national team ends up with a Euro 2024 winners medal, but, as things stand, it’s more likely that it’s Rui Patricio who returns to Rome victorious. According to the latest bet365 Euro betting odds, Portugal are currently the fifth favourite to win the tournament, well ahead of any other nation featuring an AS Roma player. Of course, things can change quickly once the knockout phase of the competition begins. Plus, there’s even a chance that it’s a Portugal v Italy final.

Denmark: Rasmus Kristensen

Rasmus Kristensen is unlikely to be a Roma player come next season, but you never know: if he performs well for Denmark at the tournament, the club’s hierarchy may just decide that he’s worthwhile signing on a permanent deal.

Alas, Kristensen will have to actually play for that to happen, and that’s far from guaranteed. So far, he’s spent the whole tournament on the bench. Given Denmark’s lacklustre performances in the group stages, we’d have to say that he’s unlikely to have many more games to make an appearance. The Danes have proven hard to beat, but they also don’t look like winning all that much either, which would make reaching the final difficult.

Nicola Zalewski: An Early Exit

We can safely say that Nicola Zalewski won’t be returning to Rome with a winner’s medal. His side, Poland, had a disappointing tournament. They drew one of the group matches and then lost the other two, finishing bottom of the group which meant they’re taking the early flight home.

Lukaku: Finally Winning With Belgium?

Lukaku had a decent season with AS Roma. So far, he’s had a pretty unlucky Euro 2024. If it wasn’t for that pesky VAR system, he may well be the top scorer in the competition. Happily for Romelu, he’ll have more opportunities to score with Belgium. The question is, how far can they go? There’s been a lot of hype about Belgium for years, yet they’ve never managed to break through. Their group stage games didn’t exactly inspire confidence that they would finally do it this year. Still, there’s no doubt that they have plenty of talent in the team, so if they can build some momentum, then there’s no telling how far they can go.

Turkey: Outsiders

Could Zeki Celik be the AS Roma player to win the Euros? Turkey are very much outsiders for glory, but they’ve proven to be an entertaining outfit, and they certainly have a lot of drive to win. If they do, it’ll be as big an upset as when Greece won back in 2004. Still, with few teams proving to be head and shoulders above the rest, it could well happen.
