Enzo Maresca has revealed the reasons why he feels Chelsea were unable to beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues were held to a 1-1 draw having taken the lead through Cole Palmer, only for the 22-year-old to give the ball away late on which led to Jean-Philippe Mateta scoring eight minutes from the end.
It now means Chelsea are winless in their last four games and although the Blues sit fourth Newcastle have closed the gap to just one point as the race for the Champions League really hots up.
Maresca made changes from the Ipswich games as he restored Malo Gusto, Nicolas Jackson, Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto to the line-up, whilst he also handed a first Premier League start to Josh Acheampong at centre back.
The 18-year-old put in a brilliant performance and Maresca feels the teenager was Chelsea’s best player, which is quite some praise.

Like with games against Fulham and Ipswich the Blues created multiple chances to score, with Jackson guilty of squandering some of the best.
A worrying pattern is emerging with the Blues not taking their chances and then making poor errors which lead to goals, and speaking after the game Maresca revealed why he felt the Blues didn’t win.
“But today, if I had to decide the reason why we didn’t win the game; we need to be clinical when you have the chance to kill the game,” he told his post match press conference.

“Because if it’s 2-0, the game is probably finished but if you continue to be open, open, open, you are likely going to concede some transitions and some corners and then you can concede.”
Chelsea now switch their attention to the FA Cup with a game against League Two strugglers Morecambe at Stamford Bridge next weekend, before difficult games against Bournemouth, Wolves and Manchester City to round out January.
