Manchester City began the 25/26 season with a comfortable 4-nil win over Wolves at Molineux. It was a polished performance from Pep Guardiola’s side, although it wasn’t a perfect performance. That fact aside, when the lineups were announced by both teams, the size of the Manchester City squad was apparent. Josko Gvardiol, Ederson, Phil Foden, Savinho, Mateo Kovacic and Rodri didn’t make City’s matchday squad. Late yesterday, James McAtee’s move to Nottingham Forest was confirmed. The trimming Pep Guardiola’s side has begun, and it looks set to continue.

Pep Guardiola expects players to leave Manchester City before the transfer window closes.

Pep Guardiola spoke of having too many players in his squad after his team’s impressive win at Molineux. In quotes relayed by ESPN, the Manchester City manager explained: “[It’s] too much – too many people. I like a deep squad to compete in all competitions, but I don’t want to leave players at home. It’s not healthy. You cannot create a good vibe or atmosphere to compete.

Everyone has to feel they can play and help. The club has known it since last season, it’s not news, but the situation is what it is.

In the next two weeks, people will talk with players and agents to find a solution.

James McAtee has left Manchester City, but he won’t be the only player to leave the club.

Young attacking midfielder James McAtee has now joined Nottingham Forest permanently. That move is the first of the expected departures from Manchester City. It seems like it will be a busy few weeks at the Etihad. Players have to depart the club to give Pep Guardiola the optimal size of squad he prefers. There appears to be two players who could join McAtee in leaving City. They are Ederson and Savinho. Both players have been heavily linked with moves to Galatasaray and Tottenham respectively. As of right now, it would be a surprise if both players remained as City players by the time the transfer window closes.

Based on the comments made by Pep Guardiola yesterday they won’t be the only players to leave Manchester City. The possibility of other departures is very real. Who else could leave the club outside of Ederson and Savinho isn’t immediately apparent. But what is clear is that more players will leave Manchester City. It is just a matter of time before who they are is revealed.
